We utilise Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES) and Ammonium Laureth Sulphate (ALES) in a number of our hand washes, body cleansers and shampoos, as our experience has shown that sulphate derivatives continue to outperform many alternatives in effectively cleansing the skin and hair.
This said, we understand that for some customers, products containing any level of sulphate-based surfactant may not the most comfortable choice. For this reason, we offer an increasing number of products that do not contain sulphate-based surfactants.
Sodium and Ammonium Laureth Sulphate are not to be confused with their Lauryl Sulphate counterparts, as the former are in our view significantly milder in structure. Both Sodium and Ammonium Laureth Sulphate are derived from Coconut and Palm Oil, which undergoes a chemical reaction with oxygen to effect a mild surfactant, or cleansing agent.
We ensure our suppliers use the necessary purification procedures to remove any traces of 1,4-dioxane, which may have formed during the ethoxylation process, before we utilise these ingredients in our formulations.
Note that no Aesop products contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS).
